Penn Street Arts Program

Penn Street Arts Program

The Berks County Arts Fund – Penn Street Arts Grant Program was created by Berks County Community Foundation to encourage the community to support the arts in downtown Reading, particularly on Penn Street. Through donations, residents can support bringing performances, interactive exhibits and more to Reading. The initial donation for the program came from the Hawley and Myrtle Quier Fund. A Reading native, Myrtle Quier was the chairman emeritus of the board of Reading Eagle Company, while Hawley Quier was publisher for both the Reading Eagle and the Reading Times. Myrtle Quier set up the fund so money would be available to help the issues she cared about after she passed – in particular, animals’ rights, education, the arts, and human and women’s services.
