Rural Arts Grant Program
The Berks County Arts Fund – Rural Arts Grant Program was started by Berks County Community Foundation in 2014. The goal of the fund is to support arts programming in outlying areas of Berks County where residents do not have ready access to the offerings provided by the established arts community. Another goal is to spark local support of the arts through donation-based giving. The initial donation for the program came from the Hawley and Myrtle Quier Fund. A Reading native, Myrtle Quier was the chairman emeritus of the board of Reading Eagle Company, while Hawley Quier was publisher for both the Reading Eagle and the Reading Times. Myrtle Quier set up the fund so money would be available to help the issues she cared about after she passed – in particular, animals’ rights, education, the arts, and human and women’s services.
