Metropolitan Edison Company Sustainable Energy Fund - Workforce Development Program

The Met Ed Penelec Sustainable Energy Fund Workforce Development Program has one $25,000 grant available for organizations within the territory served by the Met Ed electric company for projects that provide Pennsylvania residents with training for the installation and maintenance of renewable energy systems. Programs that address a critical training and/or safety need will receive preference.

What is a grant?
A grant is a disbursement to a qualified organization for a specific purpose or to support the organization’s operations and does not need to be paid back (unless the funding is misused). A follow-up report is required for each grant received that describes how the money was used, what impact it had, and other relevant information.

When should I apply?
Applications for the Workforce Development Program open on October 4 and are due by November 18.

How much money is available?
The fund will distribute one$25,000 grants fora workforce development program within the fund territory this year. Grants will be approved in December with checks sent in January.

Do I qualify?
To qualify for a grant, the organization and/or program must:
1. Be located in Pennsylvania.
2. Be requesting a grant for a program that trains Pennsylvania residents to professionally install and/or maintain renewable energy systems. At least 50% of the students in the program must reside within the territories served by the Met Ed electric companies. (Click the following map) territory map

What is a renewable energy system?
For the purpose of this grant program, renewable energy systems are those that offset standard grid-supplied power through the use of solar, geothermal, biomass, wind, and/or hydroelectric technologies, which may, in some cases, be paired with a battery back-up system for resiliency.

After you apply, a staff member from the foundation will contact you for additional information (if needed) and to set up a site visit if appropriate. After all due diligence is complete, the fund advisory committee will consider the application.
